Bookish Goals 2018 | Top Ten Tuesday
After sharing my overall 2018 resolutions, it only made sense that I do a post on what my Bookish Resolutions are for the year. This is primarily a book blog, after all.
I am linking up with “Top Ten Tuesday”, which has moved to “That Artsy Reader Girl” from now on! This is great news! Many thanks to Jana for taking up the responsibility of providing weekly prompts to the entire book blogging community! All the best, girl.
Now, when it comes to books, I prefer to use the word - “Goals” - because then it means I will actually be able to tackle my TBR, instead of cowering in a corner, in perpetual fear. But, that’s just part of the bookworm life, isn’t it?? THIS FEAR IS COMPLETELY HEALTHY.
I always say – If your TBR doesn’t give you nightmares about dying on the floor, trapped beneath its righteous weight, you’re not doing it right. I, myself, wake up at least thrice each week, gasping for breath, after I’ve had one of these. #Winningatthebookwormlife
Anyway, so let’s get to it – here’s what I have planned for 2018, reading-wise.
1. Complete my Goodreads Challenge
My Goodreads Goal is to read 30 books this year. I’ve purposefully set a low target because I hate feeling the pressure and disappointment that comes from failing to achieve a goal. I have a busy year ahead of me and so, 30 feels like an achievable number.
2. Read books I am genuinely interested in
Often, due to social media (especially Bookstagram), we are forced to pick up certain titles, even if they aren’t our cup of tea. Don’t get me wrong, Bookstagram is a great place to discover new books that people are enjoying and through it, I’ve found so many gems that I may not have, otherwise.
But, many a times, one particular title blows up all over on there and then I start feeling like I just HAVE to read it. Even if it doesn’t sound like something that I’ll find interesting. So, this year, I’m going to read more books that I feel I’ll enjoy. Regardless of what Bookstagram thinks about it.
3. Branch out in my reading preferences
Majority of the books I read in 2017 fell in either of these two categories: “Fantasy” and “Contemporary”. In 2018, I want to try out some new flavors. I’m interested to read more of Crime and Thriller. And Magical Realism, too, because I want to delve deeper into the world of Murakami. Another category I really enjoy reading is Non-Fiction. So, hopefully, I’ll pick up more books in that genre, as well.
4. Experiment with different reading mediums
Now, I am a strong supporter of choosing physical books over e-books. So, that ship has definitely sailed for me. Been there, tried that.
But, I have never tried audiobooks. Ever. And I’d really like to give it a go this year. Personally, I feel like nothing can ever compare to actual books for me. They make up a big chunk of the entire reading experience. Audiobooks, however, just seem so dang easy, that I’m tempted to venture into that field. I’ll never know if I never try, right?
So, that’s it for my 2018 Bookish Goals. Do we have any in common? Tell me in the comments below. Also, feel free to leave a link to your own TTT, if you’ve participated.
