5 Bookish Characters Who Win at Halloween | Top Ten Tuesday
India doesn’t celebrate Halloween but that doesn’t mean I can’t join in on the fun!
This week’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt is “A Halloween Freebie”, which basically means I have free reign for today’s post. Now, that NEVER happens. I mean, it’s not like I own this blog or anything.. *eye rolls at self because that wasn’t even remotely funny*
So after thinking long and hard about this post could be about, I came up with a brilliant, COMPLETELY ORIGINAL (har har) topic.
I’m going to talk about some of my favorite bookish characters, who even in their natural avatar, are very much Halloween ready. These characters could just walk in and win the award for “Best Halloween Costume” without batting an eye.
So, let's dive in, shall we?
1. Manon Blackbeak from “Throne of Glass” series
“Witches didn't need blood to survive, but humans didn't need wine, either”
I have an eternal love for witches and reading about “The Thirteen” quenches some deep-seated thirst in my soul that I didn’t even know existed (God, why do you have to be so extra, Shanu).
Manon is a character that I was sure I was going to ABSOULTELY HATE but my god, did she charm me with her savageness!
I think we all agree that if Manon just showed up on our doorstep, Trick-or-Treating, we’d be drooling over her “costume”.
Right until her wyvern poked his head from behind her. As much as I love the name, Abraxos, I'm not sure I'd survive that sight, tbh.
2. Rhysand from “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series
“Night Triumphant- and the Stars Eternal.”
I talk about the “High Lord of the Night Court” a lot here on the blog, so it should surprise no one that he made it onto this list.
Rhysand, with his Illyrian beauty and huge wings, dressed in sensuous attire, the tops of his Fae ears visible, would take anyone’s breath away.
Not to mention, he'd probably show up with his Inner Circle and dear God, how is anyone supposed to even deal with Amren and Morrigan????
If you could get past their unnatural vibe, you’d definitely be in awe of their “costumes”.
3. Daenerys Targaryen from “A Game of Thrones” series
“I am the blood of the dragon. Do not presume to teach me lessons.”
I probably should have picked the Dothraki when talking about this series. Or, maybe the White Walkers. They would definitely be thought to have some pretty awesome “costumes”.
But something convinced me to pick a Targaryen instead.
Again, Dany, with her silver-white hair braided into an intricate pattern, and her surreal beauty would definitely stun anyone who set their eyes on her.
Though, maybe she should leave the dragons behind, if she’s keen on going Trick-or-Treating. Especially Drogon.
4. Luna Lovegood from “Harry Potter” series
“I enjoyed the meetings, too. It was like having friends.”
Any list that I write cannot be complete without mentioning Harry Potter. And I know Luna is one of the more quirky characters in the series. But, the way she’s completely okay being who she is, automatically has her winning Halloween.
She is so delightfully unique. Just imagine her skipping her way to your doorstep, a copy of Quibbler tucked in the crook of her arm, her radish earrings dangling. One of the more adorable “costumes”, if you ask me.
5. Noah Czerny from “The Raven Cycle” series
“Depending on where you began the story, it was about Noah Czerny.”
Noah Czerny deserves to be on this list because he is, in fact, an actual ghost. It might not beat being a bad-ass witch, but it is an evergreen way to win at Halloween.
Nothing spells spooky better than being a beaten-up little ghost, who is really a soft, cinnamon roll on the inside. It's endearing how harmless Noah really is.
Now, seeing a grubby little boy with a dark smudge over his cheekbone might not be anything out of the usual Halloween scene. That is, until you’re told that this boy is actually dead.
So, that is it for today's TTT! A very Happy Halloween to everyone who celebrates!
